Privacy Policy

misu is a small, private place for two people to share meals. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

Effective: June 13, 2026 Last updated: July 20, 2026 Applies to: the misu mobile app & website

This Privacy Policy describes how Misu LLC ("misu," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the misu application and related services (the "Service"). By using misu, you agree to the practices described here.

01Information we collect

We collect the information misu needs to work. That falls into a few categories:

Account information

When you create an account, we collect your email address, a display name, and an authentication credential (a password, or a token if you sign in with Apple). If you set a goal, we store your chosen goal type (for example, "lose weight" or "maintain").

Your pairing

misu connects you with one other person. We store the link between your two accounts and any invite you create or accept so that your meals are shared with that person.

Meal content

When you log a meal, we collect the photo you take (or text you type to describe a meal), the results misu generates (dish name, estimated calories and macros), the time and meal type, and any note, reaction, or message you add. These are shared with your paired partner — see section 4.

Health & nutrition data

You may choose to record weight entries and nutrition goals. Your weight is not shown to your partner. If you connect Apple Health, we access only the data you authorize.

Purchase information

Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We do not receive or store your full payment card details. We receive a confirmation of your subscription status so we can unlock your subscription.

Device & usage information

We collect limited technical data to operate and improve the Service: device type and operating system, app version, crash logs, and basic usage events (such as "a meal was logged").

Making misu easier to set up

To understand where our setup flow is confusing, we use a replay tool (PostHog) that shows us how the first-run setup screens are used — which steps people pause on, and where they give up. These replays are masked on your device before anything is sent to us: everything you type, every photo, and all personal details are blacked out, so what we see is taps and screen layouts, never your content. We do not record your everyday use of misu — your meals, messages, and progress are never captured this way. If the app crashes, our crash-reporting tool (Sentry) may capture an equally masked snapshot of the moments before the crash so we can fix it. Masked replays are deleted automatically within about 30 days.

02How misu reads your plate

The core of misu is reading a meal from a photo. When you snap or upload a plate, the image is processed by third-party providers that return an estimate of the dish, calories, and macros, which we use to populate your log.

03How we use information

We use the information above to:

04What your paired partner sees

misu is built for sharing, so it's important to be clear about what your partner can see. When you are paired, your partner can see:

Shared with your partner

Meals you log (photo, dish, calories, macros), your reactions, chat messages, and your shared streak.

Not shown to your partner

Your weight entries, your personal calorie/macro goals, your email, and your account settings.

If you unpair or delete your account, new meals stop being shared. Content already delivered to your partner's device may remain in their history; see retention.

05Sharing & service providers

We share information with the providers and parties that help us run misu, including:

If misu is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

06Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you ask to delete your account, it enters a 30-day grace period during which it's deactivated but fully recoverable — log back in to cancel. After 30 days we permanently erase your personal data and irreversibly anonymize the limited content you shared with your partner so it can no longer identify you, except where we must retain records to comply with law, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Backups are purged on a rolling schedule.

07How we protect it

We take reasonable measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You use the Service at your own risk.

08Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR or CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly in the app, or by emailing support@misu-app.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

09Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from You → Delete account in the app, or by following the steps on our Account Deletion page. Deletion starts a 30-day grace period — reversible by logging back in — after which it's permanent. Meals and reactions you shared with your partner stay in their archive but are anonymized so they no longer identify you. See Data retention for the details.

10Children's privacy

misu is not directed to children. You must be at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent in your country, whichever is higher) to use the Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11International data transfers

We may process and store your information in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards to protect your data when it is transferred internationally.

12Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as misu evolves. If we make a material change, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of misu after a change means you accept the revised policy.
